  • Physical Inspection: Optical and visual inspection with manual and high-resolution camera systems (up to 1000x magnification) meticulously examine packages and chips for signs of tampering or inconsistencies, identifying potential physical markers of counterfeit parts.
  • Electrical Testing: Functional testing with industry-standard equipment verifies the IC's electrical characteristics against manufacturer specifications. This ensures the part operates within designated parameters and performs as expected in your application.
  • Non-destructive X-ray analysis: This technique provides a comprehensive understanding of a component's inner workings. Other methods like scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) provide more information. SEM provides high-resolution images of the component's surface, while EDX allows for elemental analysis, revealing the materials it's composed of.
  • Decapsulation: In some cases, decapsulation (removing the protective packaging) might be required to access the internal components for this level of analysis. This is typically done on select devices (for example: one part per date code) to verify the manufacturer's identification directly on the component's die.
  • Programming Validation (If Applicable): If programming services are requested, Semitron can verify the integrity of the loaded firmware or code against original specifications. This ensures the electronic component functions according to your design requirements. In addition, a uniquely assigned and unchangeable manufacturer ID stored in the component is checked via the so-called ID check.
