  • Axial Components: DIN IEC-286-1 standard, including diodes, resistors, and capacitors.
  • Radial Components: DIN IEC-286-2 standard, such as ELKOs, LEDs, and transistors.
  • SMD Taping: DIN EN IEC 60286-3 standard, covering SOIC, PLCC, TSOP, SSOP, QFP packages, and more.
  • Custom-Specific Packages: Tailored solutions to meet unique customer requirements.

The Process

  • Component inspection: electronic components are inspected for any physical defects or damage before being placed on the tape.
  • Tape and reel selection: The appropriate size and type of embossed carrier tape and plastic reel are chosen based on the electronic component package type (SOIC, QFN, etc.) and industry standards.
  • Component placement: The electronic components are precisely placed on the embossed carrier tape with the correct orientation and spacing for pick-and-place compatibility.
  • Process validation: Statistical sampling and visual inspection ensure proper placement and adherence to industry standards.
  • Packing and labeling: The completed tape and reel are properly labeled and packaged for safe transport and integration into the assembly line.

Frequently asked questions about Tape-And-Reel Services

The tape-and-reel service prepares components for use in automated pick-and-place machines for printed circuit boards (PCBs). Here’s how it works:

  • Carrier tape: The components are placed in a standard tape (JEDEC package) or a specially designed custom tape with precise spacing and predefined orientation. The tape is sealed with a cover tape.
  • Embossed Reel: The tape, loaded with electronic components, is wound onto a plastic reel that fits into automated pick-and-place machines.
  • Process Steps: The service typically includes drying the electronic componentss to prevent moisture damage, inspecting for defects, and ensuring proper orientation and placement on the tape. The finished rolls are dried from MSL 2a for components, or as specified by the customer for other components, to prevent moisture damage during the reflow soldering process.

We support tape and reel services for all devices, irrespective of whether they are purchased through our distribution services or not.

Most requests we get for tape and reel services are programming services and electrical testing. In special cases, we also perform authenticity testing and packaging services for extended life. In special cases, we also carry out authenticity tests and packaging services for an extended service life.

Generally, we can also strap larger quantities within a few days or the taping can even be carried out directly after the previous programming or testing process in the same machine. Depending on your specific requirements, volume, delivery format, and component type, a tape-and-reel service can take anywhere from a few minutes to several weeks.
